The Women of my Life

We followed the friendly "follow me" boat and were shown to our place, actually alongside to a HR31. This was a very interesting experience, to moor alongside to a HR31 and compare the HR312 with the HR31. We had already seen a HR31 in the Grevelingen lock and we both, especially Karolina, felt sorry for the fact that we had sold our own HR31. She was a beauty!

Of course, also ZEEPAARD is a beauty, but since we have owned our HR 31 REGINA 1 from the very beginning, we had a special feeling for her. Will we ever feel the same with our next boat? Can you ever love a woman after having parted from the first? Can love ever be made repetitive?

Or will it be different but as good?

CELICIA, our Albin Viggen, was my first love. Teenager’s love, one can say. No girl will ever be able to take that place. The first kiss, the first feelings when her wonderful body was touched by the waves and she was gently stretching her mast towards the sun, while finding her juvenile way through the stones and islands of Bohuslän in Sweden.

Our HR31 REGINA was like the woman I married. Now she is with someone else. Who left whom? Well, it was my decision; Karolina would have stayed with REGINA. Why did I want to part from her? Is standing headroom and a bigger aft cabin really worth the change? If you want something different with your wife, you just don't exchange her, do you? Instead, you try to form your partner so she becomes better or you accept her appearance. Should I have done the same with REGINA? How would I have manipulated her? Maybe by having bought a “Kuchenbude” (= the sprayhood extension) for her! Why did I not think about it earlier? But men are not as good as women to manipulate the partner, maybe?

We will not make the same mistake with our next REGINA, our new HR40! Today, we have decided to buy a "Kuchenbude" for REGINA 2. Right from the beginning. And we will do it with some special money: Karolina and I got a present from my mother on our 10 years’ wedding anniversary on 6 June (These are actually the Euros we are currently using up to pay harbour fees and beer). These Euros will be used for the Kuchenbude (we are thus just "borrowing" the EUR currently…) We never want to exchange REGINA 2.

For a long time, at least.
